Software Engineer, Payment BE

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver, a fully autonomous ride-hail service and vehicle platform. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips and driven over 100 million miles on public roads across 15+ U.S. states.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of experience programming in backend coding languages
• Strong foundation in computer science including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
• Excellent collaboration skills to work with cross-functional partners

Nice to have:

• Experience in C++
• Familiarity with Google infrastructure such as Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers, OnePlatform
• Experience with payments, billing, or fintech systems where correctness is critical

• Design and ship billing and payment capabilities end-to-end, including payment flows, wallet management, fraud controls, and reconciliation
• Build systems prioritizing correctness and security, ensuring data integrity and auditability in payments data
• Work with third-party payment providers to ensure a seamless user experience
• Scale the payments platform to handle increased volume and complexity as Waymo expands to new cities and services
• Collaborate with Product and Finance teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
