Software Engineer, GCE Control Plane, Early Careers, PhD

Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The products handle information at massive scale and extend beyond web search. Engineers work on specific projects critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business grows and evolves. Engineers are expected to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and take on new problems across the full-stack. The GCE Control Plane team develops tools, frameworks, and release processes to efficiently develop and release high quality software, improving the reliability of GCE services and decreasing time to ship new features. GCE Control Plane manages all Google compute offerings and is critical for releasing new features for 300+ engineers across 15+ teams globally. Google Cloud delivers enterprise-grade solutions leveraging Google’s technology to help developers build sustainably, serving customers in more than 200 countries and territories.

• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• Experience working with data structures or algorithms during coursework/projects, research, internships, or practical experience in school or work (e.g., open-source coding).

Nice to have:

• Years of experience related to infrastructure automation, cloud platforms (particularly Google Cloud/GCE), CI/CD systems, or building/maintaining large-scale testing/staging environments.
• Experience in leveraging AI/ML in solving Developer Experience/DevOps related problems.

• Manage API test coverage gaps discovery and test auto generation for complex compute workloads.
• Create and run virtual machines on Google infrastructure.
• Develop tools, frameworks, and release processes that empower Control Plane developers to efficiently release software to meet ongoing demand for new Compute features for Google Cloud customers.
