Staff Software Engineer, Flume ML

Google Cloud's software engineers develop next-generation technologies impacting billions of users. The team manages a planet-scale data processing infrastructure powering foundational ML features for YouTube, Search, and AI initiatives. The role involves leading a team to evolve distributed computing, focusing on scheduleability and auto-tuning capabilities critical for large-scale ML pipelines and data workloads.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including Java, C/C++, or Python.
• Experience developing and deploying large-scale distributed systems.
• 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
• Experience designing and implementing Machine Learning (ML) architectures.

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
• Influence and coach a team of engineers.
• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions.
