Domain Architect - Pharma R&D

The Domain Architect - Pharma R&D is a senior-level position within the Strategy, Portfolio & Governance Enterprise Architecture Business Partnering Functions team at Roche. This role acts as a strategic liaison between the SPG organization and the Pharma R&D function, leading the Pharma R&D architecture network and driving architecture governance and strategy formulation. The position requires deep domain experience in Pharma R&D, including scientific and clinical processes, and involves working within a federated digital technology model to ensure enterprise coherence and translate business goals into adaptable roadmaps.

• Master's degree and previous experience in IT and enterprise architecture within complex, matrixed, or federated global organizations.
• Deep domain experience in Pharma R&D with comprehensive understanding of scientific and clinical processes such as Clinical Trial Execution, Discovery & Preclinical, Biometrics, and Regulatory Affairs.
• Ability to design target-state architectures and capability roadmaps using frameworks like TOGAF as a reference.
• Knowledge of regulatory landscapes including GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and other industry-standard regulations.
• Sophisticated understanding of AI/ML platform orchestration and emerging agentic patterns to automate and enhance scientific workflows with human-in-the-loop design.
• Skilled in application portfolio strategy, mapping dependencies, and sequencing decommissioning of legacy systems to ensure business continuity.
• Experience in governing through influence, leading federated networks of architects and aligning diverse partners without direct reporting lines.
• Trusted advisor to senior leadership with executive presence and storytelling skills to translate complex architectural concepts into strategic narratives.

• Act as the strategic liaison between SPG Enterprise Architecture and Pharma R&D, partnering with leadership to align business priorities with multi-year roadmaps.
• Lead the Pharma R&D architecture network, shaping shared strategic priorities and enabling architects to execute while maintaining enterprise alignment.
• Provide leadership for architecture governance activities, overseeing deliverables and technology guardrails to ensure security and resilience.
• Drive the success of large, critical technology programs by translating strategy into actionable, transformative initiatives that deliver business value.
• Develop and maintain core architecture artifacts, including Capability Maps and Target-State Architectures, using the standard RDT toolchain.
• Partner with Portfolio Management to embed architectural insights into investment decisions, maximizing platform reuse and managing technical debt.
• Monitor emerging technology trends and evaluate vendors to ensure the Pharma R&D architecture remains innovative and future-ready.
• Influence a complex, federated RDT model, balancing enterprise coherence with the agility required for local operational execution.
