Software Engineer III - Android Messages

Google's software engineers develop next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The products handle information at massive scale and extend beyond web search. Engineers work on projects critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business grows. The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's computing software platforms across desktop, mobile, and applications, as well as first party devices and services combining Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams research, design, and develop new technologies to make user interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences worldwide. This role involves building a reliable messaging experience in Android Messages, which has more than a billion monthly active users, focusing on multi-device experiences to enrich messaging.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
• 2 years of experience with front-end and user interface development.

Nice to have:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience in frontend coding tools and languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Angular).
• Experience with web standards and web browsers.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.

• Write product or system development code.
• Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
• Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
• Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
