Tech Lead (XVA)

HSBC Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) supports clients and markets with robust, well-controlled trading and risk management capabilities. The XVA function ensures derivatives are priced and managed appropriately for counterparty credit risk, funding, capital, and collateral impacts. The XVA programme is a global, cross-functional team working across multiple regions with English as the primary language. The engineering and reliability capability focuses on delivering business requirements end-to-end, building resilient platforms with strong engineering standards and embedded controls. The team works across the full trade lifecycle using modern technologies in a transformation programme aimed at better pricing, stronger risk management, and a more resilient platform.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience (typically 5+ years in a full-time software engineering/IT role).
• Strong track record of building scalable, secure backend systems as part of multi-tier applications.
• Experienced with backend programming languages: Java and Scala required; Python and Golang are a plus.
• Proficient in database technologies including SQL and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL) and backend frameworks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to take on some business analyst work when required.
• Keen sense of ownership throughout the full software development lifecycle from specification to production support.
• Team player with proven awareness of the importance of teamwork in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.

• Serve as a senior developer, accountable for end-to-end project delivery.
• Take ownership of the entire product lifecycle, from requirements clarification to post-launch optimisation.
• Implement (code) assigned modules and tasks, providing technical solutions and design input to the team.
• Liaise with product owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to clarify user stories, acceptance criteria, and testing scope.
• Collaborate closely with the architecture team to deliver solutions that meet business needs and timelines, with a forward-thinking and design-driven approach.
• Work with stakeholders across multiple global locations to ensure focused and effective delivery.
• Provide timely and effective production support, including incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution for live systems.
• Demonstrate strong learning agility to quickly adapt to new technologies, business domains, and project requirements.
• Contribute to building a low-latency, scalable, and resilient application platform to support growing business volumes and reduce recurring maintenance costs.
