Sonar Mental Health - Senior Product Designer ( Part-time)

Sonar Mental Health is a company focused on making mental health support more preventative and accessible for young people. Their core product, Sonny, offers 24/7 chat-based support combining AI with trained human coaches. Since launching in 2023, they have supported over 20,000 youth across the U.S. and are backed by partners like Stanford University, HopeLab, and Nina Capital. The team is fully remote and mission-driven.

• 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio showcasing strong UX, UI, and interaction design
• Proven experience designing complex, multi-sided platforms
• Strong systems thinker, comfortable designing workflows, dashboards, and AI-assisted tools
• Strong UX research instincts and ability to run lightweight research independently
• Deep understanding of accessibility and inclusive design best practices
• Ability to navigate high ambiguity and limited structure, excitement to build the design function from the ground up
• Clear communicator able to present and articulate design decisions effectively

Brownie points for:

• Experience in behavioral health, digital therapeutics, or youth-focused products
• Experience designing chat-based or conversational interfaces
• Startup experience

• Lead end-to-end product design across core product surfaces, including student-facing chat experiences, administrator dashboards, and internal care workflows
• Lead 0→1 product design for major initiatives from discovery through launch and iteration
• Rapidly prototype and test concepts to validate direction before engineering investment
• Design intuitive experiences across complex clinical, operational, and AI-assisted systems
• Run discovery research, including interviews and usability testing, to inform product direction
• Partner with Engineering to ship high-quality, scalable design systems
• Own and evolve the design system to support scale, accessibility, and speed
• Partner closely with Product Management and Engineering to shape roadmap priorities and influence product strategy
• Raise the bar for craft, systems thinking, and user empathy across the company
